Seahawks activate OT Russell Okung, waive QB B.J. Daniels

The 49ers have another crack at B.J. Daniels! The Seahawks waived Daniels in order to make room for Russell Okung. We break down the implications.

We've got some news from our friends to the north. The Seattle Seahawks activated Russell Okung from the short term injured reserve. In order to make room for Okung, the Seahawks waived quarterback B.J. Daniels. Let the feeding frenzy begin!

Okung has been out since September with a foot injury, but he is ready to re-join the Seahawks offensive line. The Seahawks offensive line has struggled at times, so getting Okung back in the fold is a huge addition for them.

And yet, for 49ers fans, the short term result of this is just a little more pertinent. Fan favorite B.J. Daniels is back on waivers. The 49ers can place a claim on him, with waiver order determined by reverse order of record. The 49ers current third string quarterback is McLeod Bethel-Thompson. The 49ers have been rotating quarterbacks behind Colin Kaepernick, and it seems like Daniels did enough in the preseason to justify trying to get him back.

We'll find out for certain on Monday once waivers is processed. The 49ers could wait and see if Daniels clears waivers, and then potentially sign him to their practice squad. However, as we saw when the Seahawks grabbed him, it would be a gamble. We'll see how this plays out.
