Fooch's Update: Tarell Brown has been ruled OUT for the rest of the game. C.J. Spillman has been getting some time in the dime.
The San Francisco 49ers find themselves short-handed in the secondary, as cornerback Tarell Brown suffered a rib injury against the New Orleans Saints. The injury occurred when he took a knee to his upper body during a Pierre Thomas run. Thomas got down to the 49ers one, and after he went down, another Saints player came in and landed the knee to Brown.
The 49ers announced that Brown is questionable to return in the second half. While Brown is out, the 49ers will start Carlos Rogers and Tramaine Brock, and play Eric Wright as their nickel back. Wright entered the game as the dime back. With his elevation, the 49ers may look to rookie Darryl Morris for their dime formations (when they go to four cornerbacks).
The 49ers trail New Orleans 14-10 at the half, and will need every available body to contain the Saints passing attack. The defense struggled on a 93-yard scoring drive, but otherwise did a solid job in the first half. We'll see how the Brown injury impacts their performance.
