Well, that sucks. That sucks big time. The San Francisco 49ers had their chances, but came up short in a 23-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints. There will be complaints about officiating, but the 49ers could not execute when they needed to and it cost them. The 49ers did not "deserve" to win this game, and it showed in the final score. The 49ers drop to 6-4 and are now tied with the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West.
We'll have more on this later tonight and into the coming week, but for this game, I'm just too disgusted with this performance to put anything remotely coherent. The officiating was just the icing on the cake of what was a depressing offensive performance. At times it felt like things were about to happen, but they could find zero consistency. It was a mix of bad play-calling at times, and bad execution at other times. All in all, a huge shame to waste what was actually a very strong defensive performance for much of the game.
The 49ers get back at it under the lights next week, as they travel to face Washington on Monday Night Football. Washington is coming off a 24-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Washington's season has been an absolute mess, after coming in with high expectations. The 49ers season has been inconsistent considering their own high expectations, but nothing quite like Washington. Maybe the 49ers can figure something out next wek.
