Fooch's Update: Daniels signed with Seahawks practice squad.
Saturday afternoon, word came out that the Seattle Seahawks waived quarterback B.J. Daniels to make room for the return of offensive tackle Russell Okung. Naturally, this got fans excited about the possibility of Daniels returning to the 49ers in some form or fashion. Well, according to the NFL transaction report, Daniels went unclaimed and is now a free agent.
Now that Daniels is a free agent, he is free to sign with any team in the league. That could mean a 53-man roster, or a practice squad. Given that nobody claimed him off waivers, odds are pretty long that any team would sign him to their 53-man roster. If the 49ers decide to sign him to their practice squad, they actually have a spot available. Their practice squad is listed as follows:
Carter Bykowski
Jewel Hampton
Chuck Jacobs
Mike Purcell
D'Aundre Reed
Daxton Swanson
Michael Thomas
I believe the 49ers can sign him at any point, and he remains practice squad eligible following his stint with the Seahawks. And so for now, we wait.
