San Francisco 49ers 2014 schedule of opponents getting close to completion

The 49ers 2014 schedule of opponents is still being sorted out, but we have an early look at who they will be playing next season.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL does not release the 2014 schedule until next April, but by the end of the regular season we'll know the entire list of 49ers opponents for 2014. The schedule is based on a specific rotating formula each season that includes six divisional games, four non-conference games against a specific division, four games against a single NFC division, and two games against teams in the same divisional standing.

The San Francisco 49ers 2014 schedule of opponents will break down as follows:

6 divisional games: vs. Arizona Cardinals, vs. Seattle Seahawks, vs. St. Louis Rams, @ Arizona Cardinals, @ Seattle Seahawks, @ St. Louis Rams

4 AFC West games: vs. Kansas City Chiefs, vs. San Diego Chargers, @ Oakland Raiders, @ Denver Broncos

4 NFC East games: vs. Philadelphia Eagles, vs. Washington, @ Dallas Cowboys, @ New York Giants

Same standing: vs. NFC North, @ NFC South

Just to clarify home vs. away, that breaks down as follows.

Arizona Cardinals
Kansas City Chiefs
Philadelphia Eagles
San Diego Chargers
Seattle Seahawks
St. Louis Rams
NFC North

Arizona Cardinals
Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos
New York Giants
Oakland Raiders
Seattle Seahawks
St. Louis Rams
NFC South

If the season ended today, the 49ers second-place standing means they would face the Chicago Bears at home and the Carolina Panthers on the road. The NFC North remains a mess, so it is possible that home game could end up vs. the Detroit Lions or Green Bay Packers. And of course, technically the 49ers remain alive for the NFC West title, which would give them the first place teams in those two divisions.
