49ers vs. Cardinals: All sorts of possibilities on the line

The 49ers face Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, AZ in Week 17. The 49ers can lock up at least the No. 5 seed with a win in this regular season finale. The 49ers are 1-point favorites looking to win their sixth straight game. We take a look at pertinent details related to the game, as well as provide an open thread for discussion of the first quarter. New to Niners Nation? Sign up here and join the discussion!

The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Arizona Cardinals to close out the 2013 regular season. The 49ers are 11-4 and look to sew up at least the No. 5 seed with a win. The No. 1 or No. 2 seeds remain on the radar, but the 49ers need a lot of help to make those happen.

The 49ers face a Cardinals squad that needs a win and help from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to get into the playoffs. The NFC West is guaranteed three ten-win teams, but the odds are not good that they will get three teams into the playoffs.

The 49ers-Cardinals spread ranges between pick 'em and 49ers -1. The 49ers did not cover against the Falcons, as they needed a late NaVorro Bowman pick-six to put away a game Falcons squad. The 49ers will have to step up their game this week against a strong Cardinals squad. Arizona has won seven of eight games, including a huge road win over the Seahawks last week. This could prove to be quite the dogfight.

This will be your first quarter game thread, and we'll be back with a new thread each quarter. We'll wrap things up with a recap thread.
