Fooch's Update: Game time is set!
The San Francisco 49ers will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round of the 2014 NFL playoffs. The NFL has not yet released the schedule, but when they do, there is some speculation the 49ers and Packers would play on Saturday. This is not certain, but it also helps that the Cotton Bowl is on Friday. If the Cowboys beat the Eagles, it would make sense to give the Cowboys an extra day to prep Jerry World for the game.
This marks the second straight season the 49ers have faced the Packers in the playoffs. The 49ers caught Green Bay completely off guard last season with a whole mess of quarterback scrambles. The 49ers threw a lot of new wrinkles out there today, particularly in the first quarter. It gives the Packers plenty to study. We'll see if the 49ers have anything more to add to the mix when they travel up to Lambeau.
In other NFC news, the New Orleans Saints are the No. 6 seed. They will travel to face the winner of the Eagles-Cowboys Sunday Night Football matchup. If the 49ers can win in Green Bay, and the Saints can win that road game, the 49ers would get the Panthers in the divisional round. If the 49ers win and the NFC East team wins, the 49ers would travel to face the Seahawks.
But for now, the 49ers need to head north to Lambeau and take care of business.
