49ers snap count vs. Cardinals: Anthony Dixon gets the start

The 49ers snap count vs. the Cardinals does not have any surprises, but we did some slight lineup tweaks. New to Niners Nation? Sign up here and join the discussion!

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their 2013 regular season on Sunday, and we had a slight lineup adjustment.

The 49ers adjust their lineup week-to-week between two tight ends and a running back/fullback duo. In Week 17, Anthony Dixon was listed as a starter (PDF), and finished the game with 16 snaps. Will Tukuafu finished with 12 snaps. A week ago, Will Tukuafu had 12 snaps, Dixon had 11 snaps, but the 49ers listed two tight ends and one running back in the "starting lineup".

Who knows what this means for the playoffs. Dixon was targeted twice in the passing game and had two very solid gains. He also had two runs, and finished with -5 rushing yards. The decisions to run him did not work out, but I don't think they were the worst choices in the world. And he might have gotten hosed on the 4th and inches spot, but that's life.

Everyone's favorite bandwagon player, Quinton Patton, finished the game with 12 snaps. It was six fewer than Week 16, but it's safe to say Patton did a little bit more in Week 17. The rookie wide receiver finished the game with two receptions for 32 yards, a 26-yard run on a reverse, and a big block on Anquan Boldin's big 63-yard catch and run. We had more on that a little earlier today.
