NFL reporter Jason Cole is reporting a source has told him initial reports surrounding San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers' hamstring MRI are not promising. The source said, "We'll see, but knowing hamstrings the way I do, I wouldn't expect him to play." If Rogers is unable to play, Eric Wright would replace him as the slot cornerback. Newly acquired cornerback Perrish Cox would likely fill in as the team's dime back.
It is entirely possible Rogers is unable to play, but without knowing who this source is, it is also entirely possible the 49ers are hoping to play mind games with the Green Bay Packers. We'll find out with practice participation reports the next three days, but I have to think the 49ers will play this close to the vest the rest of the week. I suspect Rogers ends up a "game-time decision", and listed as questionable on the injury report.
If Rogers does not play, Tarell Brown would regain his starting spot opposite Tramaine Brock. After Brown hurt his ribs, he lost his starting role to Brock. Eric Wright would become the nickel back, and Perrish Cox would likely move into the dime back role. The 49ers signed Cox yesterday, but head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team was planning on signing him as soon as they saw the Seahawks had released him earlier in the week. Believe what you want.
