So that was fun right? Colin Kaepernick was finally able to get the Seattle monkey off his back and the good guys were able to vanquish the unbeatable Seahawks to the tune of 19-17. I usually try not to get too involved in the hype of the game and believe me, this one was tough. All week we had to deal with the threat of... Seattle fans flying a banner over the field. It was pathetic by the way, somebody should post a pic in the comments. The actual game was really entertaining aside from the officiating which was consistently inconsistent and maddening. They actually did a good job of calling the Seattle secondary on their constant holding but missed some pretty big calls for both sides. It honestly feels like Pete Carrol coaches his DBs to hold on every single play, hoping that the refs wont throw flags.
I'm struggling to remember the last time we had a group of receivers as good as Vernon, Crabtree, and Boldin. Rice and Owens? I'm really liking this trio though I wish Vernon would be out running routes more often as opposed to staying back to block. Crabtree had a few almost TDs that didn't happen with interference, an interception, offensive holding, and a drop all keeping him out of the end zone. Maybe it also had something to do with that holding on every play thing I mentioned, I don't know.
One of the major things I felt the 49ers needed to do heading into the game was run the ball effectively. The last game in Seattle was kind of a train wreck in that area, and this one didn't start out well either. In the end we busted out for about 50 more yards than Seattle gives up on average. A big chunk of that coming on one glorious Frank Gore scamper that went for 51 and probably secured the win for us. The winning field goal was the 20th consecutive make for Phil Dawson who broke Joe Nedney's franchise record of 18. It was a great way to end a great game, I said it on Thursday, and I'll say it again. Winning out and being the proverbial "hot team" going into the playoffs is a very real possibility for us.
