Thursday saw the tight ends getting measured out, along with the offensive linemen. If Delanie Walker leaves in free agency, the 49ers would likely be looking for a tight end in the Draft, if not also in free agency. If Walker is re-signed, I imagine the team would add at least one to compete with third string TE Garrett Celek in training camp.
If the 49ers are looking to draft a tight end, this is a particularly notable year. There are a pair of Stanford tight ends (Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo), and both got some coaching from 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman. While at Stanford, part of Roman's duties included coaching tight ends. Ertz and Toilolo saw no playing time as freshman in 2009, and then received a bit of time in 2010 as sophomores. They made their impacts after Roman left, but had plenty of time early in their development to work with the 49ers OC.
That does not mean they are officially high or low on the 49ers draft board, but it is something at least worth noting for now. And of course, much depends on Delanie Walker's future. For now though, here is a rundown of pertinent tight end measurements. You can sort through each column, so, go to town.
