The 49ers welcomed Charles Woodson to town Wednesday, but the discussion apparently did not yield contract numbers. Woodson's agent, Carl Poston made an appearance on 95.7 The Game, and he had a few interesting comments. According to Poston, Woodson is waiting on the 49ers to get back him. Poston and Woodson understand the 49ers have other players coming in for visits.
What was most interesting was Poston's subsequent comment that the two sides had not even talked contract numbers thus far. I'm not quite sure what they would have discussed, particularly given that it was reportedly a fairly lengthy day. Any guesses on what went down Wednesday?
The 49ers have been talking to Louis Delmas, and reportedly are interested in Ed Reed if he does not work out a deal with the Houston Texans. Speaking of Reed, he is continuing to talk with the Texans in Houston. It sounds like things are moving along there, so he could close something out.
For now, it sounds like the 49ers are not quite prepared to pull the trigger on Woodson. If we were to rank their interest in safeties, my guess is they have Delmas ahead of Woodson. They could very well have Reed ahead of Woodson on their priority list as well. Of course, it will likely come down to money, as it usually does.
