One position that has come up in offseason discussion quite frequently has been the cornerback position. The 49ers have three starting corners, but struggles in the postseason have led to a call for change. Whether it be Darrelle Revis or Nnamdi Asomugha, some folks simply want something different heading into 2013.
Matthew Fairburn put together his latest 2013 NFL mock draft over at SBNation.com and he has the 49ers selecting Rutgers cornerback Logan Ryan:
Logan Ryan has the upside to land in the first round. He plays the game with a physical edge and seems to fit the 49ers' philosophy on defense. Should he be available at this pick, San Francisco should take a long look.
If the 49ers were to select a cornerback early in the draft, what would be the subsequent fall-out? Carlos Rogers is likely out the door in the next year or two given his contract, but does that mean the team basically red-shirts another early pick like they did with A.J. Jenkins last year?
The 49ers will have some holes to fill due to letting so many people walk in free agency. Free safety and kicker are two positions where we could see an instant impact draft pick. We can say something similar about the tight end positon. Does that potentially dictate some of the earlier options, or will we see a host of players potentially "red-shirting" like much of last year's class?
