Late last week, the San Francisco 49ers shocked the world as they signed linebacker Dan Skuta to a two-year contract. OK, maybe "shocked the world" might be a little overdone.
They added a guy who will get a lot of opportunities with special teams, but could also find himself getting some depth work on defense, as well as possible a little offense in a blocking back role. During his conference call with the 49ers, he was asked about whether he might play on offense, and there was a very distinct pause of several seconds before he said he would do whatever the team asked of him. I'd imagine he'll get a chance to be a three-way player during his time with the 49ers.
After some waiting, we finally have contract details. Skuta's two year contract is worth a total of $3 million. It's a pretty low-key deal, for a guy who will likely fly under the radar a good deal of the time. Well, under the radar except for amongst us diehards!
