The San Francisco 49ers find themselves holding on to a plethora of draft picks for next month's NFL Draft. With 14 picks spread fairly evenly throughout the seven rounds, the 49ers are in a position to do some interesting wheeling and dealing over the three days of the draft.
In looking over the two years of the Trent Baalke/Jim Harbaugh era, the San Francisco 49ers made what looked like five trades in 2012 and four trades in 2011. I'm not 100% certain about those numbers, but I think they are pretty close. Trent Baalke is a guy who is always looking to move up and down the draft board to get the guys and picks he wants.
Earlier this week I posted the current slate of 49ers draft picks, including comp picks. In the comments, EastBayNinerFan posted an over/under of 4.5 trades for the 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft. That led to some interesting discussion about how active the 49ers would be in trading. I thought I'd post the over/under here and see what people think about the 49ers trading possibilities next month.
I went with the over, and I really didn't think it was a difficult pick. The only reason I see it coming under is the 49ers packaging multiple picks in several instances. We also have to consider how many picks the 49ers are looking to make. Even with a decent number of picks and some two-for-one draft pick deals, we saw this team make three trades starting with a third round pick last year. Anything is possible, and the 49ers are in a rare position to move around in a variety of ways.
Do you see more or less than 4.5 49ers trades in the 2013 NFL Draft?
