The San Francisco 49ers free agency rumblings have been quiet lately, but that doesn't mean the team is finished in the market. It should surprise nobody that Nnamdi Watch retains a faint flicker of life. According to Pro Football Talk, Nnamdi Asomugha is still considering the 49ers and Saints.
Although the 49ers have relatively limited salary cap space, there are still some options that could result in Nnamdi coming to the secondary. As PFT pointed out, it has been a fairly depressed market for cornerbacks. The situation is further complicated for Nnamdi because of the $4 million he is receiving from the Eagles. For a lot of contracts, any money would be offset by a new contract. Nnamdi gets the $4 million no matter how much he signs for elsewhere. As PFT pointed out, teams could in turn decide to low-ball Nnamdi, or he could simply be in a position to be extremely patient in looking for a deal.
Whatever the case, we are left to wait and see what happens with him. Logic would seem to dictate he would want to secure work before potential teams have filled secondary holes through the draft. That gives us as much as a month of waiting for Nnamdi to figure out what he wants to do.
Nnamdi Watch. CAN YOU FEEL THE zzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
