49ers offseason workout schedule update

We have some updated information about the 49ers 2013 offseason workout program.

Earlier this week, we posted some details about the 49ers upcoming offseason workout program. The 49ers are allowed to begin workouts on April 15. They are allowed nine weeks of workouts that wrap up with a mandatory minicamp June 11-13.

We've got some updates on that information. Teams are allowed up to ten days of offseason training activities (OTAs). The 49ers will conduct their OTAs May 21-23, May 28-30 and June 3-6. Live contact is not permitted during OTAs, but the team is allowed to conduct various 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. Prior to the OTAs, teams are not allowed to conduct these offense vs. defense drills.

The workouts will be closed to the public. The 49ers used to make July/August training camp open, but with construction going on, I would not be surprised if they kept it closed again. I'll keep on eye out for more details on that.

In the meantime, the offseason program will allow the team to start getting back on the same page for the coming season. The first two weeks are strictly strength, conditioning and rehab work. After that, the players can start working with position coaches, which will help them start working in new aspects of the 2013 scheme.

This is Colin Kaepernick's first offseason as the starting quarterback, but otherwise much of this offseason will be about simply improving and adding to the base already in place. Anquan Boldin and others join the fold, but the core remains intact, which leaves the 49ers that much further ahead of teams still sorting through various issues.
