Three weeks ago, the Green Bay Packers released safety Charles Woodson. There has been some discussion here about potentially bringing in Woodson for a year or two if the team lets Dashon Goldson walk. Although he is getting a bit long in the tooth, Woodson could provide a bridge to a younger safety if the 49ers go that route in the draft.
With that in mind, we are starting to hear some rumors surrounding Woodson. According to Josina Anderson, the Seahawks, Dolphins, Jets and Giants have all called with interest. It remains to be seen if the 49ers will express any interest, but Woodson joins Ed Reed as two veteran safeties who could provide a bridge to the future.
If the 49ers cannot come to terms with Dashon Goldson, how would you handle the free safety position moving forward? Woodson and Reed are two temporary options. You might also think C.J. Spillman, Darcel McBath, Trenton Robinson and Michael Thomas are all possible options. Or do you just draft a rookie early in the draft and see where it takes you in the fall?
