San Francisco Super Bowl Committee adds Steve Young, George Seifert

The NFL Draft is only a couple weeks away, and while that is obviously a big deal, the Bay Area faces a big moment shortly after that. In May, the San Francisco/Bay Area Super Bowl Committee will present their bid for Super Bowl 50 at the league meeting. Miami/South Florida will also present, and the league will decide which of the two will host the historic 50th Super Bowl.

San Francisco added a pair of heavy hitters to their bid committee, bringing in Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, and Super Bowl winning head coach George Seifert. I imagine Young and Seifert will be there to do some schmoozing, but I don't know what else to expect from them. The Committee will be putting together plans on how everything will operate during the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. I imagine city officials will be a bit more involved in that, with Young and Seifert able to add some "presence" to the proceedings.

I've said it frequently, but I have to think San Francisco remains the favorite. The stadium is making excellent progress, and should be set to open on time in 2014. Given all we've heard, we could be looking at the most technologically advanced stadium in the world. South Florida is obviously a great area, but for a historic Super Bowl like No. 50, wouldn't you want something special like the new stadium in Santa Clara? And if the 49ers can claim a Super Bowl in the coming years, they will move back up with Pittsburgh for most Super Bowl victories. It would only be fitting to hold Super Bowl 50 in the Bay Area.
