We're on to the twentieth pick of the second round, No. 52 overall in the 2013 Niners Nation NFL mock draft. If you missed parts of the first round, check out our entire rundown.
The Minnesota Vikings are now on the clock, and their Niners Nation GM is Karl Cuba. With the fifty-second pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Vikings select Jesse Williams, DT, Fresno State
Explanation: Having added a receiver and cornerback in the first round I was looking to add to the front seven here. Two players have fallen further than I would have expected that fit for Minnesota; Kevin Minter and Jesse Williams. However, the Vikings need an outside linebacker who can stay on the field for three downs, not a two down, inside thumper like Minter. They'll just have to find a third linebacker to pair with Greenway and Henderson later on, maybe Khasim Greene, Kiki Alonso or Sio Moore
This leads me to the talented and mammoth antipodean, the Williams Wall shall live on! He will line up for me on the nose and help to recreate the impenetrable line behind the impressive Vikings' defenses of recent years.Having only been introduced to football at a relatively late stage Williams is an odd juxtaposition, being regarded as raw with untapped potential while having played at a high level in an NFL style scheme for Nick Saban at Alabama.
I just couldn't look past the chance to have Jesse Williams learn from one of the league's premier technicians in Kevin Williams and Jared Allen.
Trevor Woods: Karl gets one of the biggest "steals" of this mock draft. I am surprised Williams fell so far down the board, but the Vikings get some great value. Williams can play multiple positions on the d-line and in multiple schemes, his versatility will serve him well in the NFL.
Nick Chiamardas: Karl Cuba continues his impressive drafting selecting Williams this late in the second round. Williams is thought to be more of a fit for a 3-4 defense where he can play NT or either side of the line at the 5T. Williams is verstile enough to potentially fit nicely into a 4-3 and the value here is insanely good.
