49ers schedule 2013: Way too early game-by-game predictions

We take a stab at making some early predictions based on the 49ers 2013 NFL schedule.

USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers schedule has been released, which means the time has come for absurdly, wildly, insanely early predictions. We may not know what the rosters will look like in their entirety. We may not know what injuries will be in play. We may not know what teams have regressed, and which are playing better than expected. And yet, that will not deter us from making a first go through the team's schedule.

Last year, my first prediction of the offseason had the 49ers finishing 12-4. I was a half game off overall, but more importantly, I was incorrect on nine games (including the tie). I suppose it's good to get the record right, but when you whiff on almost half the schedule, that record doesn't have as much meaning!

I went through this year's schedule, and while there are some tough matchups, I also think there is a lot of games the 49ers can win in this schedule. Without factoring in what will happen next week in the draft, I come away optimistic about how the 49ers stand heading into 2013.

Of course, I need to continue my research into the 49ers opponents. But in the meantime, here are my predictions. This is likely over the top for many, but I came away with 13-3. I do not expect to see a 13-3 record because there are games in there that will trip this team up. And, considering how wrong I was on so many games last year, I'm sure we'll see something similar this year.

I have the 49ers 4-2 in the division, and undefeated at Candlestick Park. Maybe I just think the glory of one final year at Candlestick Park will inspire the team to greatness. OK, maybe not. The Texans will be tough at home, as will the Panthers, Seahawks, Colts and really the whole slate. I'm not overly impressed by the Cardinals at this point, but the NFC West could be a wild race this year. Maybe they'll play the role of the Rams in tripping up the 49ers. Or maybe that will be the Rams role, who knows.

Where do you think I'm completely missing the mark with my predictions? Am I being a little too much of a homer, or is 13-3 a realistic possibility?
