Anquan Boldin to wear No. 81

The 49ers issued jersey numbers on Friday for their new players, with Nnamdi Asomugha the only one still awaiting a jersey number. The most notable, as has been pointed out across the Interwebs, is Anquan Boldin wearing jersey No. 81. Garrett Celek wore the number last year and has switched over to No. 88. I imagine a deal was arranged to get Boldin the number.

Matt Maiocco put together a quick rundown on the depressingly entertaining history of the 81 jersey. Since Terrell Owens departed San Francisco, the 81 jersey has been worn by the likes of Rashaun Woods, Antonio Bryant, Brandon Williams, Brandon Jones and Braylon Edwards.

While that is not the best list, I am not overly concerned about Boldin's addition to the list of people wearing No. 81. If they get anything near the numbers he's put up the last few years, I think we all would be plenty pleased with the acquisition.
