Golden Nuggets: Colt McCoy isn't the worst backup option

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Doug Pensinger

Good morning ladies and gents. Yesterday, there were reports of the San Francisco 49ers trading for Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Personally, I like the trade. This is a relatively weak quarterback class and I've always been of the opinion that McCoy might be able to do some good things in the right system.

That said, I disagree with all of the Alex Smith comparisons. Smith was much better than McCoy, but thankfully, we have our starter in Colin Kaepernick. I wouldn't be confident in McCoy starting or anything like that, but I think he's what you want in a backup for the most part.

Anyway, we're going to get on to the links for the day. Enjoy.
