The San Francisco 49ers hold 13 picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, and I would bet all the money I don't have that we see the team make multiple trades throughout the three days of the draft. There are rumors of the team wanting to move up in the first round, but even beyond that, the 49ers will likely move picks to boost their haul for 2014.
The 49ers sent out a media packet with an assortment of historical details surrounding the 49ers and the NFL Draft. The most interesting part I found was a look at all the draft-related trades the team has made over the years. I won't run through all of them, but I thought I'd take a look back at the 49ers moves over the last 15 years. It has no bearing on the 49ers moves over the next three days, but it's still fun to take a look back at how things developed the way they did.
The team has made several moves already this year, acquiring draft picks and using draft picks to add some established players. They traded quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for the Chiefs second round pick this year (No. 34 overall) and a conditional 2014 draft choice. The 49ers then traded their sixth round pick (No. 199 overall) to the Baltimore Ravens for wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Finally, they traded their fifth round pick (No. 164 overall) and the Bengals seventh round pick (No. 227 overall) to the Cleveland Browns for Colt McCoy and a sixth round pick (No. 173 overall).
Here is a look at their trades over the last 15 years. Some of the trades list players eventually selected with the acquired picks, but not all do because there were future trades.
