The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft is a wrap, and the 49ers have taken steps to address their safety position with the selection of LSU safety Eric Reid. There are some conflicting opinions, but Reid has speed and athleticism that will hopefully bode well for his future.
The 49ers will be back on the clock fairly quickly on Friday as they hold the second pick of the second round, No. 34 overall. They could go a lot of ways with this pick, maybe even moving down in the right situation. While we wait for that to happen, I thought we'd take a preliminary look at some of the best players remaining on SB Nation's Top 200. Here is an updated look at those rankings. Nick will be going into greater detail tomorrow, but for now we're just going to take a look at a few of the options at No. 34.
The 49ers are likely to look at some defensive line and tight end options at No. 34. Based on the SB Nation Top 200, here are a few of the top defensive linemen (the ranking is overall):
14. Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State
29. Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
31. Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
37. Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Here are a few of the top tight ends:
34. Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
40. Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State
53. Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati
Maybe the 49ers look at wide receiver?
19. Keenan Allen, WR, Cal
48. Robert Woods, WR, USC
How about cornerback?
46. Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers
47. Johnthan Banks, CB Mississippi State
55. Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
Am I missing any obvious positions? These seem like the most realistic possibilities. Who do you see the 49ers pursuing at No. 34? Or do you see the team trading down with somebody who wants a quarterback? Geno Smith has slipped down as E.J. Manuel surprised some folks as the first QB selected. Do you try and work that kind of deal to add a 2014 pick?
