A day after news broke that free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was going to sign with the San Francisco 49ers, the move became official as Nnamdi put pen to paper. After signing, Nnamdi met with the coaching staff and then conducted a conference call with the media. You can listen to audio at 49ers.com.

For the most part, Nnamdi did not have a lot to say. Based on some tweets that were going out and a comment by Nnamdi, he was actually on the road to Stanford University to host some students. Nnamdi does a lot of work in the community to help kids further their education.

During the conference call, Nnamdi was asked about his struggles in Philadelphia and what he needed to do to get back to his Oakland form. Nnamdi would not go into specifics, other than to say the struggles could be related to a lot of things. He was not going to list them out because he felt like that would come off more like excuses. He did not think it was an age thing, however.

One very specific point he did make was that he is in San Francisco to play cornerback, not safety. Although he said he is prepared to do whatever is necessary to help the team win, I think that was more related to playing inside or outside as a cornerback. But he was very firm on that point. We'll see if that changes as training camp approaches and the cornerback competition develops.
