49ers 2013 Preseason Schedule Announced: Alex Smith on the schedule!

The NFL announced the 2013 preseason schedule. We take a look at the 49ers slate of games.

The NFL announced the 2013 preseason schedule today, and in an amusing twist, they simply used Facebook to release the schedule. The regular season schedule will get a huge hour-long television introduction. Preseason? Not so much.

The San Francisco 49ers will not face the Oakland Raiders for the second straight year. The two teams ended their preseason series after their 2011 matchup saw an excess of violence at Candlestick Park. It could return some time in the future, but for now it remains on the backburner.

The 49ers preseason schedule will open at home against the Denver Broncos. This is the second straight year the 49ers will face the Broncos in the preseason. Week two has the 49ers traveling to Kansas City to face the Alex Smith and the Chiefs. I'm sure the NFL decided to have a little fun with that one. The 49ers will face the Chiefs in 2014 during the regular season, but the league probably wanted to try and boost the viewing for that one. Unfortunately it will not be on national television, which seems kind of odd given the storyline involved.

The 49ers then host Minnesota on the Sunday Night Football game on NBC. It will be the last game of Week Three. The 49ers wrap up their schedule with their regular matchup against the San Diego Chargers. This game will take place in San Diego.
