Charles Woodson does not expect to sign with 49ers

Charles Woodson remains on the market, looking for work. Here is why he will not end up with San Francisco.

Since the start of free agency, one player who frequently shows up in my Twitter mentions is Charles Woodson. Since being released, the only team Woodson was reported to have visited was the 49ers. The team subsequently signed Craig Dahl, and drafted Eric Reid. While it does not guarantee anything, Woodson seems to think this removes the 49ers from the picture, as far as he is concerned.

Woodson has been making some media appearances lately, as he tries to keep his name on the radar. In an interview with Rich Eisen, Woodson indicated the above transactions indicated to him that the 49ers were no longer an option. Trent Baalke had said Woodson was on their radar prior to the draft, but the team's move for Eric Reid would seem to just about answer that question.

Some people may be wondering why I'm posting this, but that's basically it. People have been asking if Woodson is an option, and at this point, there is no reason to think he is. If he ended up in San Francisco, it seems to me like it would be a result of things going haywire with the current safety options.

I have to think Woodson's best bet is once training camp gets going. Some team thinks they have solved their safety situation, but either ineffectiveness or injury will open the door for someone to sign Woodson. We'll see who it is.
