The 49ers wrapped up OTAs yesterday, and will pick things back up next Tuesday for another three days of workouts. We've had a modest amount of coverage from the 49ers facility, but obviously people always want more. Kevin Lynch (SF Chronicle) added to the reports with a few thoughts on cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
However, Asomugha showed well. Asomugha often latched on quickly to the receivers he was covering and he muscled them. However, Asomugha had difficulty sustaining coverage if the play lasted long, which isn't surprising at age 31.
As Lynch pointed out further down the article, Nnamdi's value could be enhanced by an improved pass rush. This really can be applied to the entire 49ers secondary. The 49ers added Nnamdi, but through the draft we saw their recognition of the need for more pass rush help.
Nnamdi did get the start opposite Carlos Rogers with Tarell Brown out of town. That will get people talking about why Chris Culliver was not getting that spot, but it seems like he is more suited for Carlos Rogers' corner role at some point. Maybe it's not enough of an excuse, so we'll see as training camp gets underway in two months.
