Saturday afternoon open thread

An open thread for the Derby, Floyd Mayweather's fight, and an otherwise fun Saturday afternoon.

Doug Pensinger

Things are quiet and I'm getting some time to actually get out and about, so I thought I'd get an open thread together for what should be a fun Saturday of sports. This afternoon, the Kentucky Derby goes down, opening the Triple Crown horse races. I don't really follow horse racing, but I do keep track when the Triple Crown is happening. Well, I pay attention for the first two, and if a horse has a chance to secure the Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes, I'll keep track. You can follow all Derby details over at SB Nation.

Later tonight, Floyd Mayweather faces off against Robert Guerrero on PPV. The fight is for the Ring Magazine welterweight title. Mayweather is undefeated and the favorite, but plenty will be rooting against him. Personally, I root for Mayweather, but he does enjoy playing the villain. SB Nation has plenty of fight coverage.

For Bay Area sports fans, the Giants will face the Dodgers at 6:05 p.m. PT in a favorite rivalry matchup. I'm an A's fan, but I know plenty of folks here are Giants fans.

We'll have plenty more 49ers content tomorrow, and possibly a bit more today. I'm going to check out Iron Man 3 and have a friend's house party tonight, so we'll see if I get back in time for some more afternoon content. We've got plenty for you to check out in the meantime.
