ESPY nominations: Colin Kaepernick nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete

Colin Kaepernick has been nominated for an ESPY. This is as good a reason as any to post the Norm MacDonald monologue from 1998.

The ESPYs remain a thing apparently, and 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete. He is facing off against Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and Angels OF Mike Trout. Naturally, we have to play up the Kap vs. Wilson dynamic storyline. Down with Seattle!

The recognition is always cool, but they are the ESPYs after all. That being said, go in and vote for Kap. It limits the number of votes per person (each browser on a given IP address), but you can also open an Incognito window in Chrome to vote multiple times. Woo hoo, right?

More importantly than the vote, is the video above. For those who don't remember, Norm MacDonald was the host of the 1998 ESPYs, and his monologue pretty much assured he would never host again. The entire monologue was loaded with great jokes, but skip to the 7:50 mark to see his Charles Woodson Heisman Trophy joke. The looks on the faces of Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Bonds are priceless.
