Day 4 of training camp saw more of the same from a lot of the players. Ian Williams continues to get solid reviews all around. Marlon Moore is another name that pops up frequently. One new addition to the list of standouts was rookie free safety Eric Reid. He's been looking lost in coverage but had a good day on Sunday. He nabbed his first INT, called the play of the day by one, and broke up another play and appeared to have control over the vast swath of field he'll be charged with covering should he win the starting job.
On a down note, Darius Fleming appeared to suffer a serious knee injury to the same knee that kept him out of action in 2012. He was on the PUP for the start of camp but was removed in time to re-injure himself. Let's hope it's not as bad as initially feared. There are a lot of nagging injuries to the receiving corps, but with Monday a scheduled day off, hopefully they'll be back to full strength for the resumption of activities on Tuesday.
Training Camp: Day 4
Matt Barrows thought Eric Reid looked great in pass coverage yesterday. Were any of us starting to get worried about the early reports? He also notes that while Jewel Hampton has looked good as a runner this offseason, he was unimpressive in pass blocking situations. Might that keep him off the field? | Training camp D4: Spillman starts, but Reid shines at safety (Barrows)
Christian Gin gives you his observations. Some of the same names keep popping up. Marlon Moore and Ian Williams are mentioned frequently as players standing out so far. Moore is close to earning 'human highlight reel' recognition for some of his catches. With the receiving corps so banged up and no one really standing out, Moore may be one of the surprise additions to the roster. | 49ers 2013 Training Camp Practice Notes Day 4: Darius Fleming goes down (Gin)
The injury bug was at it again. It seemed as though most of the wide receiving corps is banged up in one way or another while Darius Fleming's injury, to the same knee that forced him to miss all of '12, had a big effect on the players. | LB Fleming re-injures knee; injury bug also hits WR corps (Barrows)
