Marcus Lattimore: "My best-case scenario is in Week 10 something like that"

49ers running back Marcus Lattimore is continuing his rehab, and is anxious to get back on the field. We take a look at some of his comments, and what it all means.

I guess today is all about discussing injury news! OK, maybe not, but still. LA Times NFL reporter Sam Farmer had a chance to sit down with Marcus Lattimore and discuss his rehab process. In the interview he discussed a timeline of sorts, saying, "My best-case scenario is in Week 10 something like that, I get out there and will be full speed and ready to go."

We know the 49ers are taking their time with Lattimore, but you can tell he is anxious to get back on the field. He appears to understand the 49ers thinking, but given how much of a competitor he is, it is not surprising that he talks about his eventual return.

I still think he ends up spending the entire season on the Non-Football Injury list, but you never know what might happen. SI's Peter King addressed the topic in his "postcard" from 49ers camp. He mentioned that "people" with the 49ers believe that if they do need him this year, Lattimore could be available to play and take some contact by mid-season.

Lattimore seeing the field this season would take a lot of things happening that we would prefer to not discuss. For now, I'd say the bigger question mark of seeing the field is whether Jewel Hampton makes the roster. He spent most of last season on the NFI list before being added to the 53-man roster for the final stretch of the season. With Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James ahead of him, Hunter Hampton will need to show he can contribute on special teams for the 49ers to keep him around.
