The San Francisco 49ers have activated running back Kendall Hunter from the Active/PUP list. Hunter isn't practicing Saturday, but he plans on being in uniform for the 49ers FanFest at Candlestick Park.
Hunter is recovering from a partially torn Achilles tendon suffered last November. Before the injury, he rushed for 371 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games while serving as the primary backup to Frank Gore. He was expected to be ready to go for the start of training camp, but the team decided to let him rest for about a week before letting him practice again.
Now healthy, Hunter is expected to continue being Gore's backup, though he will face some competition from second-year speedster LaMichael James. The 49ers also drafted Marcus Lattimore in the fourth round, but he's still rehabbing from a severe knee injury and likely won't be a factor in 2013.
