Golden Nuggets: Demarcus Dobbs Suspended; Joe Staley Returns to Last Open Practice

Thursday, August 15, 2013 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Joe Robbins

Demarcus Dobbs has gone and gotten suspended. He was really looking good, the staff appears to like him and I was excited about his progress. His suspension falls under the substance abuse policy, not the performance enhancing drug section, and is for one game. Disappointing, really. We're not sure what the circumstances are, with some speculating it may have something to do with his DUI arrest. We'll find out more soon.

As for the practice, it was the last day open to the media. It sounded like another fun one. I'll let the beat writers explain all of that to you. There'll be Dobbs links and assorted other stuff below.

Day 16 Recaps

In BASG's notes A.J. Jenkins showed some serious hunger in coming back and snatching a ball from in front of Tarell Brown. Chad Hall had the catch of the day. And Lawrence Okoye can teach you how to Dougie. | 49ers practice notes: Hall's catch fires up the offense, Okoye teaches everyone how to Dougie (BASG)

Joe Staley returned to practice, which is good news. There's no telling if he'll play against KC, but conventional wisdom would say no. Eric Reid took the first team free safety snaps. We're not hearing bad things about it, so hopefully he's in the process of winning the job. | 49ers WRs Conclude Camp in Style (49ers.com)

MarQueis Gray had his second straight strong practice. We'll see a lot of he and Garrett Celek, with presumed No. 2 Vance McDonald missing the game due to 'something he's working through'. | Day 16: Staley Returns and 49ers Prep for KC (Biderman)

Other News

One player I'm excited about after the first preseason game is Perrish Cox. We need a CB who can be added to the mix on special teams. Cox showed us just that. He also looked good on defense. | Perrish Cox could have significant role on 49ers (Gin)

Ian Williams has garnered a lot of attention for his play at nose tackle, basically overshadowing the presumed favorite for the job, newly signed Glenn Dorsey. But when you hear the coaches talk about Dorsey, they seem happy with what he's doing. | 49ers expectation for Dorsey: Keep doing what he's doing (Maiocco)
