Earlier today, the San Francisco 49ers signed quarterback Seneca Wallace and released wide receiver Ricardo Lockette. Now, the 49ers have made another move. The team announced they have placed safety Darcel McBath on injured reserve, and claimed linebacker Joe Holland off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to Matt Barrows, McBath injured his foot last week during Chiefs returner Devon Wylie's 52-yard punt return. The move to injured reserve ends his season. Holland was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the 49ers last year. He was released during roster cuts and spent time on the Dolphins and Buccaneers practice squad. According to the beat writers, Nate Stupar has been sitting out practice this week, so an additional linebacker makes sense.
I'll have a new 53-man roster projection tomorrow, but in last week's I left off McBath. He was the team's lead special teams man last season after Demarcus Dobbs went down. The team's addition of special teams players created a bit more competition, and I just didn't see him making the squad. My guess is Craig Dahl makes the roster in a similar role to what McBath did last year.
