We're back with another edition of 49ers Bubble Watch, and since last week's Bubble Watch, there has been quite a bit of jostling. As things currently stand, I have 36 players listed as locks. I'm sure there are at least one or two with which you will disagree, but based on what we've seen and heard, I feel pretty comfortable with them.
The biggest changes are moving Marlon Moore, Nnamdi Asomugha and Perrish Cox up to lock, and moving B.J. Daniels, MarQueis Gray and Tony Jerod-Eddie from weak bubble to strong bubble.
Marlon Moore has gone out with the first string offense the last two weeks, and come off fairly quickly, like most of the starters. I suppose we could take Harbaugh's flowery words for him with a grain of salt, but nothing indicates he won't make the roster, other than the fact that he is Marlon Moore. Nothing personal against Moore, but I know there are plenty of people wondering, "How is Marlon Moore a starter?" He seems to be impressing, and at this point, it really would be a surprise to see him not make the roster.
I added Nnamdi and Cox to the locks because both have looked great the first two weeks of the preseason. The 49ers other options are Marcus Cooper and Darryl Morris, but at this point, I don't see how Nnamdi and Cox do not make the roster. I'm open to suggestions, but I just don't see it.
I moved MarQueis Gray into the strong bubble because he has shown some flashes thus far. He has turned the competition with Garrett Celek into a serious competition. Gray still could be destined for the practice squad, but he is not going down without a fight.
As for the backup quarterback competition? It's pretty much a cluster-[site decorum] at this point. I imagine some would put Daniels as lock or strong bubble, and the rest as weak bubble, but I have no idea what to do with them for now. Hopefully we see something on Sunday that provides some semblance of clarity.
How do you see the bubble watch?
