The 49ers took care of business against the Minnesota Vikings, winning 34-14 in their final Candlestick Park preseason encounter. There were some highlights and some lowlights. Quinton Patton looked good in his first action as a 49er. He scored a touchdown on a pass from Colin Kaepernick and had four catches overall. Jewell Hampton looked good, trying his hardest to stake a claim to a roster spot. Colt McCoy looked better, and apparently has claimed the No. 2 QB spot after reportedly renegotiating his contract and then getting shopped around during the day. Lavelle Hawkins looked great on a 105-yd kick return for a score but got saddled with three 15-yard penalties, something Coach Harbaugh won't stand for. Joe Looney will be under scrutiny after delivering a blow to an unsuspecting Kevin Williams' knee.

49ers vs Vikings
BASG does a good job of recapping the game for you. Patton is singled out for his play. On the touchdown, Kaepernick kept the play alive with his feet and Patton did what good receivers do, he kept moving until Kap found him in the back of the end zone. BASG also notes that Marlon Moore played well and Jon Baldwin looked more comfortable than A.J. Jenkins ever did, despite having spent only a week with the club. | 49ers find a backup QB and a couple new weapons on offense (BASG)
Matt Maiocco's post has Nnamdi Asomugha moving into sole possession of the No. 3 cornerback slot. Garrett Celek did himself no favors last night, dropping a pass and getting flagged for holding. Cam Johnson, who was looking at becoming a victim of the numbers crunch at OLB hurt his shoulder during the game. It appeared to be serious. | Instant Replay: 49ers roll to 34-14 win over Vikings (Maiocco)
Many people were salivating when Quinton Patton plopped into the 49ers lap in the fourth round of this years draft. Many in the know thought he could step right in and make a good No. 2 receiver. We've been waiting patiently all offseason to see what he brings to the table. We finally got a glimpse. | It Appears 49ers Have Found a Receiver (NBC)
It would appear that Lawrence Okoye was credited with a quarterback pressure. Welcome to the stat book, young man. | Lawrence Okoye makes a stride in 49ers' 34-14 win (SF Gate)
Lavelle Hawkins had a productive game, with his score on a kickoff and a long reception in the passing game. His three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties are absolutely ridiculous. He's already fighting long odds to make the team. | 49ers notes: Hawkins' return sparks specials teams, irks Harbaugh (Barrows)
Some have been predicting the 49ers will keep five outside linebackers. Count Chris Biderman among them. He's got more notes from the game. | The Takeaway: Patton Shines, Battles Clear Up (Biderman)
Ray Ratto gives some thoughts. Harbaugh's postgame presser is included. | 49ers' win highlighted by stupidity from Hawkins, fans (Ratto)

Colt McCoy's Crazy Day
This is how Colt McCoy's day began, with rumors swirling that the 49ers were trying to shop him around. What we could have managed to get for him at that point was a mystery. If only he'd show something in the game later on... | Report: 49ers are shopping Colt McCoy (Gin)
Cam Inman weighs in on the Colt McCoy situation. He has other notes that pertain to the 49ers as well. | Is McCoy better as trade candidate or Kaepernick backup? (Inman)
