The San Francisco 49ers will be under the lights tonight for their preseason finale as they travel down to Qualcomm Stadium to face the San Diego Chargers. Although it is an evening game (7 p.m. PT kickoff), playing in San Diego generally means you get gorgeous weather.
As per usual, we're back with the weekly weather forecast using 49ers kicker Phil Dawson's three favorite websites. In case you missed it, earlier this month, Dawson met with the media and discussed the weather issues that come with kicking at Candlestick Park. The swirling winds at the Stick are frequently discussed, and a significant factor for special teams. Obviously that is not an issue tonight, but we're checking the weather every week, anyway.
There is actually a slight chance of rain tonight, but for the most part it should be another gorgeous San Diego evening. It won't impact the game, but I think it is still worth bringing up the return game competition. At this point, I honestly don't know what the final outcome will be.
Through three games, LaMichael James has gotten the most deep work, but with plenty of fair catches, we haven't had many opportunities to see exactly what he can do. Perrish Cox has gotten the second most work back there, with Chad Hall getting a couple returns, and Quinton Patton returning a kick last week.
Will LaMichael James claim the role heading into next week's game with the Packers?
