Golden Nuggets: Austin Collie is our future

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

So back when the San Francisco 49ers were working out wide receiver Austin Collie for the first time, I expressed how I really liked Collie as a receiver and would be happy to have him on the team. However, I hoped the 49ers didn't sign him for one very simple reason: signing him would indicate something more is wrong at the wide receiver position.

And I'd have to say it is. Aside from all the injuries, Quinton Patton is just too raw and A.J. Jenkins hasn't had a truly positive article to this point, I don't think. Hopefully Collie can stay healthy because I think he's a good addition to the team. At this rate, it is what it is, and I'm expecting a heavy dose of Frank Gore. Then again, Vernon Davis is "playing wide receiver," which is one of the most ridiculous terminology quirks I've ever heard.

Onto the links.
