This is only tangentially related to the 49ers, but I thought it was funny anyway. The Cleveland Browns announced their roster cuts today, and it includes BOTH of their kickers. This decision resulted in a great tweet from Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely:
Browns cut both their kickers?? Good call not resigning the best kicker in franchise history. Ummm about that @phil_dawson_4 guy, our bad

The Browns previously had Phil Dawson handling kicking duties. He played the 2011 and 2012 seasons under the franchise tag, and the Browns decided to move on. They brought in veteran Shayne Graham and Brandon Bogotay, but decided that neither was quite cut out for the job. The Browns will sign a kicker eventually, but for now, they are kicker-less.
The 49ers head into the 2013 season with a certain measure of confidence in Dawson. He finished the preseason 9 of 11, missing a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter of the first game, and a 52-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the fourth game. He has looked good from distance, and close up, and for now things are solid at the kicker position.
