Golden Nuggets: Ricardo Lockette steps up; WR jumble

Usually I like to scour the training camp reports and try to find little nuggets for the Nuggets. I have to say that today, every beat writer said nearly the same thing. Everyone noted Ricardo Lockette as the star of the show. Some said Austin Collie played well. Then most noted the players who did not participate or were limited. Not much to glean from here.

And the day was rather quiet otherwise. You will notice the glut of receiver stories out right now. It seems like the only topic anyone is talking about. And as long as their talking about it, I'm linking to it. But until someone separates from this massive peloton of WRs, the writers will keep harping on it. It's my biggest concern.

Ricardo Lockette was the star of the show according to all. Austin Collie also had some big catches. It's been a bit of a carousel lately with a different receiver stepping up to take the center stage. Now all we need is consistency from any of them and we'll have a starter. Wide Receiver Jumble

Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin had nice words for each other. It's pretty obvious that Boldin is making life easier for Kaepernick. If this headline is really the case, then A.J. Jenkins should have no problem seizing a spot near the top of the depth chart at wide receiver. I'm happy if he's No. 2 or No. 3. Thursday vs Denver

We'll get our first chance to see Lawrence Okoye in action. His situation makes him one of the more bizarre and unique rookies I can remember. I'm pretty excited to see him go. Candlestick Park

It's funny when I look at the titles of these two pieces. My greatest memory of Candlestick Park was Roger Craig's fumble following the '90 season in the NFC Championship Game to give the Giants the trip to the Super Bowl. That was the only playoff game I've ever been to and it ruined our chances for a three-peat. I also saw Jerry Rice break Steve Largent's record for most receiving touchdowns. But I have to say the loss to the Giants had the greater impact.

Now that we see how it has played out, it would seem obvious that Martin was kept over Schmidt when the 49ers signed Lavelle Hawkins and Austin Collie just to provide Kaep with someone to throw to. Now that most of the receivers are healthy, Martin is axed and Schmidt is brought right back.
