August 27th: Which 15 Players Will Be Cut?

  • August 27: First Roster Cut Down Date
  • All NFL teams have to trim their 90-man training camp rosters to a maximum of 75 active list players by 4:00 PM ET. Active list players include players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

In less than 3 weeks, teams will be forced to "trim the fat" off of their rosters by cutting 15 players that simply didn't make it in camp. In theory, this should be an easy list to predict because most would agree on who the "camp fodder" is on the roster. For example, Charly Martin would have made this list if I'd made it a week ago, simply because who would think that the 49ers would keep 12 WRs on a 75-man roster? Charly Martin was, pretty clearly, the weakest link among the receivers even though he is said to have had a decent camp. He is 29 and PS ineligible, and therefore would have had to beat out the top 5 or 6 receivers on the roster to even have a shot, and I just couldn't see that happening.

So, which 15 players do you see the 49ers cutting? Surely, this list will change as we watch the preseason games, but I thought it would be interesting to try and predict it before the nation got to see the 49ers play.

Here is my list:

  1. Lowell Rose-CB
  2. Darryl Morris-CB
  3. Lamar Divens-DT
  4. Jason Schepler-FB
  5. Wayne Tribue-G
  6. Kevin McDermott-LS
  7. Mike Purcell-NT
  8. Colton Schmidt-P
  9. D.J. Harper-RB
  10. Chuck Jacobs-WR
  11. Lavelle Hawkins-WR
  12. Michael Thomas-S
  13. Patrick Omameh-G

SURPRISE CUTS:

14. Darcel McBath-S

15. Scott Tolzien-QB
