And there we have it! The 49ers have signed cornerback Eric Wright to a one-year deal, a couple weeks after a trade for him fell through due to a failed physical. The 49ers also announced that they have placed him on the Non-Football Injury/Illness list.
In the announcement, the 49ers stated that Wright was "tending to a personal matter and he will join the team as soon as possible." After the initial trade went down, word came out that he had been arrested for a DUI offense. Charges still have not been filed, so we'll see if this is the personal matter with which he is dealing. He was arrested previously for a drunk driving charge, but he was exonerated.
The 49ers once again waived cornerback Lowell Rose, who had previously been waived when the 49ers originally traded for Wright. I'm guessing Rose is not a big fan of Wright.
The 49ers lost Chris Culliver last week to a torn ACL, so the addition is not entirely shocking. The 49ers cornerback depth chart has some question marks, although guys like Tramaine Brock, Perrish Cox, Michael Thomas and Marcus Cooper could provide themselves with a boost later tonight. I imagine Wright will join the team in the next few days and potentially be available for the team's Week 2 preseason matchup with the Chiefs.
