49ers roster cuts, practice squad tracker

The San Francisco 49ers cut down to their 53-man roster on Saturday, but it should surprise nobody if the team tweaks their roster as we approach the Week 1 home opener against the Green Bay Packers.

There are several potential roster moves to be made today. The most prominent moves would be signing eight players to the practice squad. Although plenty of practice squad players never make it on to the 53-man roster, the 49ers have had quite a few talented players make the climb to the 53-man roster. As Eric Branch pointed out, the season-opening practice squad included LB Michael Wilhoite, DT Tony Jerod-Eddie and LB Cam Johnson, all of whom made this year's 53-man roster. That squad also included WR Nathan Palmer and DT Matthew Masifilo, who eventually earned roster spots with the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.

Additionally, the 49ers worked out fullback Owen Marecic on Saturday. If they decide to sign him, they would need to cut another player.

For now, this will be our open thread for roster moves, similar to what we had for yesterday's roster cuts. I'll have individual posts for the transactions, but use this one to drop in rumors and news.
