The San Francisco 49ers have not yet confirmed anybody on their practice squad, but through various sources, we have an idea of seven of the eight players. Based on reports from Matt Maiocco, Matt Barrows and myself, the 49ers are reportedly added the following players to their practice squad:
1. CB Darryl Morris
2. OT Carter Bykowski
3. WR Chuck Jacobs
4. RB Jewel Hampton
5. OT Patrick Omameh
6. DT Mike Purcell
7. S Michael Thomas
The 49ers can sign eight players to the practice squad, so we await one more signing. It is worth noting that the 49ers do not have to sign the full eight. Given that quite a few players were waived today, it is possible the eighth person for the practice squad is waiting to clear waivers tomorrow.
Since the specific player could include a large contingent of people, how about everybody submits a guess as to which position will fill the last spot?
A common guess on Twitter is a tight end with some blocking skills. Given the loss of MarQueis Gray, that would not be shocking. However, my guess is cornerback. The team could lose several cornerbacks after this season, so it makes sense to get as many in to Santa Clara for development purposes. I think most of us would have liked to see Marcus Cooper get through waivers, but he did not.
