Fooch's Update No. 2: The deal is done
Fooch's Update: Matt Barrows is reporting Nick Moody is dealing with a hand injury and could be a candidate for the IR with return designation.
The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly bringing wide receiver Kassim Osgood back into the fold. The 49ers released Osgood at the end of training camp, but now we have multiple reports that the team is signing him back. John Devine of the Monterey County Herald reported it last night, and Pro Football Talk tweeted it out as well this morning. There is no word on any corresponding roster move in order to make room for Osgood.
Osgood is almost exclusively a special teams player. He got some opportunities at wide receiver in training camp, but with 44 catches since 2003, it's safe to say he has a specific role at this point in his career. He did some solid work on special teams in August, but the team ended up bringing in a pair of potential wide receivers in Jon Baldwin and Chris Harper.
Baldwin and Harper were inactive on Sunday, while Marlon Moore was fairly limited in his role. If the 49ers are in fact signing Osgood though, who do they cut, and if it's not a wide receiver, who then ends up as a game day inactive?
