The San Francisco 49ers have made it official. The team signed wide receiver Kassim Osgood and placed linebacker Nick Moody on the Injured ReserveDesignated for Return list. Reports indicated he was dealing with some kind of hand injury. In placing Moody on short term IR, the team cannot activate him for at least eight weeks following the placement. They are also only allowed one short term IR move, so this move takes away the designation the rest of the season.

Osgood is listed as a wide receiver, but much like Moody being listed as a linebacker, both are special teams players this year. Moody was on most special teams units this past Sunday, finishing with 23 ST snaps. C.J. Spillman led the team with 27 special teams snaps, and Moody joined four other players with 23 snaps.

The 49ers previously signed Osgood over the offseason, releasing him at the end of training camp. He will slot right into that special teams corps, likely simply replacing Moody's snaps.
