The San Francisco 49ers host the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, and we've got some early injury news on the Colts. Tight end Dwayne Allen remains day-to-day with a hip injury that kept him out of the Colts Week 2 loss to the Dolphins. Allen suffered the hip injury in the third quarter of the Colts Week 1 win over the Raiders. He missed practice all last week, and after initially getting categorized as questionable, was downgraded to doubtful and held out of the game.

The Colts started Coby Fleener in place of Allen this past Sunday, and Fleener put together a strong showing. Fleener caught four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown, and had another touchdown reception negated by an illegal procedure penalty. The Colts drafted both Fleener and Allen last year, with Fleener expected to lead the way. He has struggled, falling behind Allen on the depth chart. Aside from his rookie debut when he caught six passes for 82 yards, this was by far his best performance in the NFL.

It sounds like Allen is at best questionable for this Sunday, which means Fleener would join Andrew Luck in the starting lineup against their former coach. Fleener would likely face coverage most frequently from Patrick Willis, although NaVorro Bowman would probably get some work against him as well. The Colts are rather thin at wide receiver, with Darrius Heyward-Beybit banged up. Luck and the Colts will be relying on Fleener for some significant contributions.
