Golden Nuggets: Practice Squad Set; Some 49ers sign elsewhere

Monday, September 2, 2013 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday was the day when each of the 32 teams sorted out their practice squads. Some of our guys got picked up by other teams and are now on their 53-man rosters. Scott Tolzien and MarQueis Gray were grabbed by the Packers and Browns. Both Chad Hall and Marcus Cooper were picked up by the Chiefs. The 49ers were then able to get the guys they could onto their PS. You'll be surprised by at least one of the names. Jewel Hampton made it. I do think Marcus Lattimore is the heir apparent to Frank Gore, but I think Hampton is the heir to Kendall Hunter when he starts sniffing around for a raise.

I'll let the Pros explain it to you...

Practice Squad / Transactions

Chris Biderman gives you the scoop on the 49ers practice squad. Chuck Jacobs, Jewel Hampton and, wait for it....Patrick Omameh are among those who will fill out our scout team. We need two offensive linemen on the practice squad so the starters don't have to pull double duty. That's what you get. Jacobs looked good in his mop up time performances. | Practice Squad: Former 49ers Land Elsewhere (Scout.com)

Other News

This is a what I was worried about with LaMichael James' injury. When Kendall Hunter was healthy, James never suited up once. Hunter and Frank Gore carried the load. Now, with his recovery from an MCL sprain keeping him out for 3-4 weeks, who's the running back that will get bumped for him to suit up? Anthony Dixon? If so, why not keep a different special teamer when it came time to make the cuts. Talking Points

Who among you thought Patrick o'MMA would be on the practice squad? Any other gripes?

Any surprises amongst those who were picked up by the other teams?

What is LaMichael James' role in the 49ers offense?
